The Cerro Coso Baseball team will return home today after a double header sweep of the Porterville Pirates earlier in the week by scores of 3-1 and 14-0. The Coyotes move to 8-3 on the year and have enjoyed success in many offensive categories through the early part of the season. Following a similar offensive trend from the 2021 spring, the Coyotes continue to post near the top of many offensive categories compared to teams across the state. Leading the way for Coso is Brent Olmo (.455/20 H/6 2B), Johnny McHenry (.387/17 H/3 2B/2 3B/1 HR) and Danny Jimenez (.359/14 H/1 2B). Also, coming off of a monster week and the most recent IEAC Player of the Week selection is Brooks Scott, in his last 18 at bats he has collected 8 hits, 4 of them by way of home run. Not to be outdone by this powerful offense is the consistent defensive play and bullpen depth. Jaxon Holzem has opened the season with a 2-0 record, 0.0 ERA and 15 Ks in 9 innings of work. Following his lead is sophomore Mitchell Maxfield (2-0, .69 ERA) and an impressive start for freshman Jake Riding (2-0, 5.27 ERA) have helped to anchor down the Coyotes on the mound.

Today's contest will be game 1 of 2 between Santa Barbara CC and Coso, with the second game being played at SBCC on Saturday. SBCC will come into the Dawg Yard the owners of a 5-3 record and will prove to be formidable competition for the Coyotes. First pitch for the contest is scheduled for 2:00pm at the Dawg Yard.
