The Coyote baseball teams returns home for non-conference action against AVC after dropping 2 of 3 games to Southwestern College this past weekend. During the road trip, Cerro Coso played quality baseball against the Jaguars but couldn't come up with the big play when needed. Friday night's game was scarred by a 4 run third inning by the Jaguars which Cerro Coso wasn't able to recover from and ended up losing by a final of 2-8. On Saturday, the two teams squared up for a double header, in game one of the twin bill, the Coyotes appeared to be in control of the seven inning contest until a difficult 3 run fifth inning found the Coyotes trailing by a run. They were unable to scratch another run across the plate, and ended up dropping the game 6-8. But the night cap would prove to be a different result. Mitchell Maxfield (1-0) got his first start of the season on the mound and pitched a commanding 6 innings allowing only 1 run. The Coyote bats came alive in the third inning by plating 6 runs, which would be all Maxfield needed as he handed the ball over to relief pitcher Jordan Massis to close the game. The Coyotes would go on to win 10-1.

Cerro Coso (3-2) will face AVC (2-2) in the first of two contests between the teams this season. The Marauders are most recently coming off of a loss to Taft college and have demonstrated that their offense is capable of posting runs with 28 in four games.
