
Cerro Coso Women's Basketball performed well in their recent tournament hosted by College of Sequoias. They went 2-1 on the weekend and improved to a 9-2 record on the season. During this tournament they played Mt. SAC (41-76 Loss), Chabot (86-79 Win), and Butte College (64-62 Win).
In their nailbiter victory against Butte, the team shot 25-63 (39.7%) and went 5-17 (29.4%) from beyond the arc. Defensively, they stole the ball 12 times and forced 15 turnovers which allowed them to stay ahead of Butte and secure the win.
The Lady Coyotes scoring leaders in this game were #30 Alexis Staton with 22 points, #11 #22 Shaniyah McCarthy with 11 points, and #5 Lia Sims with 10 points. Staton went 8-13 on FGM, and 1-3 from the 3-point line. McCarthy led both teams on cleaning up the boards with 11 total rebounds on the day. Shaniyah McCarthy also earned herself a double-double with her 11 points and 11 rebound game.
Their strong performance in this tournament gives them good momentum going into conference play with whom they open up with Palo Verde at home. The Lady Coyotes will look to continue playing hard as they strive to take on conference play for the first time under Coach Johnson's leadership.
