#4 Destin Jenkins Soars To The Rim

The Cerro Coso men's basketball team took the reigns of the #1 spot in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference basketball standings Wednesday night with a tremendous come from behind victory over Chaffey College. The Coyotes, dressed in their all black alternative uniform, did not disappoint the large crowd during "Blackout Night".  Chaffey came into the Cerro Coso Gym ranked #1 with the Coyotes right on their heels. During the game, the Panthers controlled much of the tempo of the contest and never let go of the lead, until the last second of the game. Coach Dugan continued to push his team to apply pressure to the Panthers and chip away at a significant second half deficit. During the last minutes of the game, the Coyotes tightened up with an impressive defensive stand only allowing 4 points during the closing minutes...then Destin Jenkins stepped up and drained back to back 3 point shots, followed by a quick 2 point lay up where Sincere Edwards had to fight his way to the rim. This brought the Coyotes within 2 points and only seconds remaining on the clock. Following a Chaffey timeout, Cerro Coso clamped down on defense and with 5 seconds remaining on the clock, Destin Jenkins pulled down a much needed rebound and passed off to the hot hand of Malachi Greenwhich. Greenwhich would dribble the length of the court and with the clock set to expire, he set up for a deep 3 point shot that would bank off the glass and lead to a remarkable come from behind win.

Coming off of this emotional victory, Cerro Coso will take to the road on Saturday January 27, with another challenging matchup against MSJC. This is a rematch for the two teams as Coso took the first win at home. The Coyotes will then return to Cerro Coso Gymnasium for their next home game against Barstow College, Wednesday, January 31 with a 7pm tip off.
