
The Cerro Coso baseball team earned a top 25 ranking in the state in the most recent CCCSIA rankings, earning as high as #20 in the state. The team is currently holding a 15-7 record on the year with a 6-1 conference record. This comes after their recent sweep against Barstow College, as well as a 13-10 victory over Mt. San Jacinto at the Dawg Yard.
The Yotes are also currently in first place in the IEAC ahead of #14 Chaffey College. This weeks matchup against Mt. San Jacinto will be an important series for the team as they look to continue their momentum as conference play continues. The team continues to be led by Sophomore leadership coming from Sophomore hitters Jordan Boman, Kyle Phin, Ariel Rodriguez, and Dariel Rios; and pitchers Kanon Welbourne, Luis De Los Santos, and Jordan Boman.
Offensively, the team is leading the state in hits with 295, second in triples with 12, and 10th in the state with homers at 19. Most notably, they are 5th in the state in batting average at .346, and 7th in the state in slugging at .501. On the pitching side of things, they are only allowing a .247 batting average against, and are 4th in the state in K's at 213.
The team is on the road for a two game set against Mt. San Jacinto and after taking game 1 on Tuesday, they will hope to take the series this weekend. With the heart of their conference play ramping up, the Yotes will try to maintain their momentum to continue this strong season.
