The early season woes continue to slow the Coyote Baseball team from getting out of the gates quickly in pre conference competition. Following a strong showing in last weekend's series against Southwestern CC, the Coyotes were not able to capitalize on the road against AVC, resulting in a 1-6 loss, the Coyotes second loss to the Marauders this season. Undeterred, Coach Scott continues to hammer home the principles of consistency and accountability to his players and plans to continue putting his guys in the right place at the right time to capitalize on opportunity. Coach Scott has recognized, "the biggest challenge that we are currently faced with is lack of experience in first year players, and we will begin to see results from these guys once they settle in, but it is going to take a lot more at bats and time on the mound". Although the duration of the big picture of an entire season cannot be overstated, the clock is ticking as the Coyotes only have one more week to find their stride with IEAC competition opening up at home on 2/22 against COD.

For this afternoon's double header the Coyotes will be leaning on the freshman pitching arms of Matt Chavez (1-0, 3.86 ERA) and Nick Perez (0-0, 5.68 ERA). Matt Chavez is coming into this start after an inspiring performance last week against SWC, going 8 1/3 innings of shoutout pitching as he earned the win. That game also earned him Pitcher of the Week honors in the IEAC. Nick Perez enters today with his first career start. Perez has appeared in three games this spring, with all appearances coming out of the bullpen. Most notably, Perez had a strong showing coming in during a long relief role on Saturday against SWC, shutting out SWC for 4 innings.

Join the Coyote Baseball team today at the Dawg Yard for a double header against Imperial Valley. Game 1 is slated for a 12:00 noon start. #HowlYes #MakeYourMark #RunWithThePack
